Man Utd confident they will beat Liverpool to Jadon Sancho signing

Manchester United believe they are in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The England international has made a name for himself in the Bundesliga since choosing to leave Manchester City in 2017.

His impressive displays for the German side have seen him become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and also attract interest from the Premier League.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been strongly linked with the 19-year-old.

But according to The Telegraph, the Red Devils see themselves as the frontrunners in the battle for his signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can’t guarantee Sancho Champions League football just yet but they feel they are still at the top of the list having made the player their priority transfer target.

The Norwegian boss attempted to sign Sancho last summer but the former City player was happy to stay at Dortmund.

However, his relationship with the club and manager Lucien Favre is said to have soured in recent weeks following their 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Sancho was taken off after just 36 minutes in the match and is said to have felt ‘humiliated’ after the incident.

While a move to Liverpool would likely prove more attractive to Sancho right now, the Reds aren’t willing to engage in a bidding war with their rivals.

Earlier this month, Reds legend Steve Nicol insisted Sancho would be ‘crazy’ to seal a switch to Old Trafford - and a move to Anfield would also not be the right move to progress his career.

“I think he’s crazy if he goes to Man United,” the Scot told ESPN FC.

“We’re talking about he’s struggling in a team that’s struggling [Dortmund] - Man United are going to be struggling for a couple of seasons, so I would stay away from there.

“Well if I was advising him, let me put it that way, I would like to see him at Liverpool.

“I think he would be fantastic. If he could get his head round playing second fiddle to [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah, then that would be huge for Liverpool in my opinion.

“They could save the legs of both of those two and kind of swap the three of them in and out.

“But he’s not going to do that, he’s going to go somewhere to play. So I think Liverpool’s out.”
