Nairobi Stima maintain league lead after win over Kenya Police
Nairobi Stima head coach Leonard Odipo is confident his charges can continue with their impressive form for the rest of the season after registering his second consecutive win by defeating Kenya Police 2-1 at Karuturi Grounds over the weekend.
Victor Ochami and Caleb Olilo were on target again as Stima maintained their top spot at the helm of the 2019-20 National Super League (NSL) with six points and 11 goals having previously thrashed Northern Wanderers 8-0 on the opening day of the season.
Speaking to Standard Sports, Odipo said he believes his team will get stronger as the league continues with their goal being to finish at the top.
“We have started the season very well and to score 11 goals in two games is very impressive.
“The team is still bonding with the new signings still finding their feet with the rest of the squad but I believe they will get even better,” he said.
“Our only objective this season is to finish top with as many goals as possible and avoid finishing in the playoff spot that cost us Kenyan Premier League promotion last season.”
In Kericho, Ushuru also maintained their perfect start with a 2-0 win over AP Bomet as Talanta was held in a barren draw by former KPL side Vihiga United at Mumias Complex.
“We started well but failed to score because we were not clinical and wasted many opportunities that would have sealed us three important points. Despite the disappointment, we have to go back and work on getting goals and I trust the team will come back stronger against Bidco in Thika,” Juma said.
Bidco United on the other hand defeated hosts Migori Youth 2-0 to go joint second as Mount Kenya United registered their first win of the season in a 2-1 win over Coast Stima with Musa Ekal and John Njoroge scoring for the hosts.
Shabana also bounced back to winning ways after losing their opening match to defeat newbies Muranga Seals 2-1 in a packed Gusii Stadium and hand Gilbert Selebwa his first victory where Abo Traore and Philbert Ochieng scored for Shabana and Wilson Kamau pulled one back for the Seals.
