SportPesa experienced the lowest mega jackpot bonus payout to its customers this week since it was unveiled four years ago.

This was after the State struck at the heart of 27 betting firms, ordering telcos to shut down their pay bill numbers and shortcodes till their licenses are renewed.

The closure of the betting pay bill numbers heavily impacted millions of Kenyans who were unable to deposit cash, SportPesa being among them.

Those who were lucky enough to win mega jackpot bonus seemingly placed their bets days or hours before the pay bill numbers were suspended.

Announcing the bonus pay-outs on their social media pages, SportPesa on Sunday evening, July 14, revealed those who predicted 13 and 12 out of 17 games in the mega jackpot won Sh. 74,823 and Sh18, 447 respectively.

The winning jackpot combination was 1,2,X,1,2,X,1,1,2,X,2,2,2,X,X,X,1.

Following this announcement, it was evident from the reactions that several Kenyans had been directly or indirectly affected by the government's directive to suspend pay bill numbers, with most asking SportPesa when normal operations will resume. Others, on the other hand, sympathised with the betting firm.

SportPesa Mega Jackpot currently stands at Sh239, 962, 943 million.

The mega Jackpot has not been won since Cosmas Korir won Sh208, 733,619 after he correctly predicted the outcome of all the 17 games listed in 2018.

It was the fourth time the Mega Jackpot had been won after three lucky winners shared 115million in May 2017 just one month after Samuel Abisai pocketed Sh221 million.

On February 7 2018, Gordon Ogada, an orphan, won the biggest jackpot in SportPesa history by taking home Sh230, 742,881.
