Frank Lampard won his first match as Chelsea manager as his side put four past St Patrick's Athletic.

Olivier Giroud scored twice for the Blues with Mason Mount and Emerson Palmieri also on target for the visitors.

Lampard again fielded two different XIs in each half with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi given the chance to impress.

The striking pair spent last season out on loan but will hope to get a crack in the Premier League next season.

They will have to improve on this display with both players wasteful in front of goal during the first half.

It was another returning loan player who opened the scoring in Mount, who impressed under Lampard at Derby last season.

Mateo Kovacic slid in the England Under-21s midfielder and he finished easily for the Blues.

Lampard's side doubled their lead before the interval through left-back Emerson.

Ross Barkley teed up the Italy international for the goal although goalkeeper Barry Murphy should have done much better.

Lampard changed his entire team at the break with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma and Giroud entering the fray.

And the French striker showed his younger teammates how its done with two goals in the second period.

Giroud turned in a Kenedy cross after Pedro had twice gone close for the Blues and finished coolly to wrap up the win late on.

Chelsea face a much tougher test in their next pre-season fixture as they take on Barcelona in Saitama.
