Daniel James is set to become Manchester United's first summer signing.

The Swansea youngster arrived at Carrington for his medical on Thursday morning and will finalise the deal later today.

James will complete a £15m move to Old Trafford and become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing.

Monaco had made a late move for the Welshman while there was also interest from Everton and Leicester, but he had his heart set on a move to United.

He will complete the transfer on Thursday before travelling with the Wales squad to Croatia.

James caught the eye with some impressive performances in the Championship with Swansea last term.

His signing emphasises the change in transfer strategy at Old Trafford as Solskjaer looks to bring in young players with potential, rather than forking out huge sums on older stars.

James' dream move to Old Trafford had been delayed by the sudden passing of his father, Kevan.

In an emotional Instagram post, the 21-year-old vowed to make him proud.

The post read: "There is not one day goes by that I don't miss you, you are my inspiration and I wouldn't be where I am today without you.

"I couldn't be prouder as a son. You have never pushed me into anything I didn't want to, you always wanted me to do what makes me happy.

"Words can't describe the pain I'm feeling now. I just want you to know how much I love you and how much you will be missed by all of us.

"You put a smile on everyone's faces with your silly jokes and never failed to make anyone laugh.

"Thank you for everything you have ever done for me I couldn't ask for anyone better, I will make you proud I promise!"
