Alexis Sanchez transfer blow as Barcelona reject chance to re-sign him

Barcelona will not offer Alexis Sanchez the chance to end his Manchester United nightmare, according to a report in Spain.

Sanchez has struggled for form since he arrived at Old Trafford from Arsenal last January, scoring just five goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Jose Mourinho's departure in December was seen as an opportunity for the Chilean to rejuvenate his United career. But Sanchez has started only five of United's 18 games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge.

And it seems that the Norwegian, who is expected to be given the job permanently, does not see Sanchez in his future plans.

It had been reported that United would offer the forward to Barca in a loan deal as they attempt to get his mammoth salary off the club's wage bill.

However, according to Barcelona-based daily Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club have no interest in re-signing their former player.

Sanchez played for Barca between 2011 and 2014, scoring 39 La Liga goals in 88 appearances, before moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Prior to joining United, Sanchez was courted by a host of Europe's leading clubs - including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

But his blockbuster pay packet, reported to be £391,000, will prove a stumbling block with the world's best clubs no longer willing to part with that much cash for a 30-year-old who's struggled for form since a prolific 2016-17 season.

There have been suggestions that Sanchez is willing to take a pay cut having realised his future lies away from Old Trafford.

And it seems that United are already planning for life without Sanchez.

According to numerous reports, the Old Trafford club have made enquiries about Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho while they have been offered former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, who is enduring an unhappy season at Barcelona.
