Gor Mahia players arrived at the Heathrow Airport, London in high spirits, certainly looking magnificent in their marching broken suits, blue coats and khaki trousers with smart shoes, ahead of Tuesday’s historic SportPesa Trophy match against Everton in Liverpool.

Before departure, the record Kenyan champions, who are in a one-week tour of England, posed for an official photo group at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with the photos sending their social media fans into frenzy.

“Because of this historic match, it was good to be confident in how they dress. They (the players) have achieved a lot and make them feel real Kenyan ambassadors,” said SportPesa assistant marketing manager Muthoni Kihanya.

Gor Mahia chair Ambrose Rachier said, “The boys are looking smart and presentable. It is amazing, the reaction we got is encouraging. I am extremely happy with the way they dressed.

“It is an exciting feeling and great moment for all the players, more so those who are coming to England for the first time.”

Gor captain Harun Shakava added: “We feel great and everyone is looking forward to the match.”

Upon arrival, the 24 players together with the seven technical bench members and two officials travelled by road to the United Kingdom’s capital where they took a two hour train-ride from Euston Train Station to Liverpool.

New signing Shafiq Batambuze and Jacques Tuyisenge are expected to fly to England today.

The Dylan Kerr trained side, who are looking forward to avenging their 2-1 defeat to the Toffees in Dar Salaam last year, will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch and spy on their opponents when they host Brighton at Goodison Park tomorrow.

And the good news for the East Africans, is that both Birmingham City and Leeds United chief scouts having confirmed their attendance at Tuesday’s fixture.

“Yeah, Birmingham and Leeds’ Chief scouts will be at Goodison Park on Tuesday. This is once in lifetime chance for this group of players,” Kerr, who has been in England since October 17, told Standard Sports.
