‘Mia san Mia’ – ‘We are who we are’. Niko Kovac’s Bayern Munich travel to the Athens Olympic Stadium in Greece to face AEK Athens. The home side sit bottom of group E and have been tipped by bookies to concede at least more than once, considering’s Bayern’s strength and quality. For most, Bayern Munich look set to win it, unless their recent domestic form comes back to haunt them.

Ajax vs Benfica

A high-flying Ajax side will welcome Portuguese top-flight side Benfica to the Johan Cruijff Arena. With Bayern Munich struggling, both these sides will want to compete hard for top spot in group E. Benfica are third and trail Ajax by a point. The last time these two sides met (July 2014), the Dutch side came out victorious.

Hoffenheim vs Lyon

The Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena will stage the showdown between giant-slayers Olympique Lyon and German side Hoffenheim. Group F is still all to play for with only three points separating first and fourth. Lyon look the more experienced side and possesses more quality but Hoffenheim’s quick-play on the break could surprise the former French champions. Alberto Undiano will be the centre referee.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Manchester City

Following Pep Guardiola’s shocking admission that English champions Manchester City are not yet ‘ready’ to win the Champions League, Ukranian giants Shakhtar Donetsk will aim to confirm his statement as they square off at the Stadion Metalist. Both teams are in a good run of form, with the Citizens only dropping two points in five games – almost similar to the Ukranians who have only drawn twice in their last five. This matches promises goals.

Real Madrid vs Viktoria Plzen

Hala Madrid. The holders will be hoping to put domestic league troubles behind them as they host Czech Republic’s Viktoria Plzen at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. This should be an easy one, you could say, for Los Blancos. Julien Lopetegui’s men simply can’t allow Plzen to beat them, as they have not managed a win for five straight games in all competitions - four of those defeats. Plzen have dropped four points in their last five matches – winning three, drawing one and losing one.

Roma vs CSKA Moscow

Eusebio Di Francesco will be hoping to end the night top of group G as Roma welcome Russian powerhouses CSKA Moscow. CSKA have started the competition well this season and could go one further if they beat a rejuvenated Roma side bent on escaping Real Madrid. The last two meetings between these two sides saw the Italians win emphatically once (5-1 in 2014) – the other a 1-1 draw the same year.

Young Boys vs Valencia

Swiss outfit Young Boys have already come to terms with the fact that the Champions is for Europe’s ‘elite’. They have lost all their matches in the group stage so far – their next task, a visit from Spanish side Valencia, who are a point above them. Valencia, this season, have had difficulties winning matches away from home – managing only one win in their last five. Young Boys are equally besieged – losing two and drawing one of their last three in all competitions.

Manchester United vs Juventus

This is the Main Event!

You could say Jose Mourinho would have claimed bragging rights if he completed the job during the weekend at Stamford Bridge. But with the last gasp Barkley equaliser dimming celebrations in Manchester, no one knows which Man United side will turn up against the Old Lady of Turin. Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford in Juventus colours and is hungrier than ever. Juve have won four of their last five games in all competitions while Man United, struggling to gel, has only won two out of five.
