The second edition of Kabarak University Half Marathon raised Sh5million that will go towards education of needy students in the society according to Vice Chancellor Henry Kiplagat.
Kiplagat called on companies to assist bright students, who cannot afford school fees.
“We should have a big heart of assisting bright but needy students and we can do so by organising such races,” Kiplagat said, during the race's awards presentation ceremony yesterday at the institution.
Winners of different races had to wait for eight weeks to be given a clean bill of health by Anti-Doping Association of Kenya (ADAK) for them to receive their cash prizes.
All top 10 finishers in the 21km and 10km races received certificates and cash prizes.
Men's 21km winner Abraham Kiptum and Valery Jemeli (women winner) each received Sh200,000 and a heifer worth Sh150,000 from Kiplagat.
Also at the ceremony were Chairman of Resource Mobilization Committee Lazarus Sumbeiywo and Kabarak University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) Ronald Chepkilot.
Kiptum registered 1:2.02, Jemeli pos ed 1 hour 13 minutes 20 seconds ahead of Celestine Chepchirchir.
