Laiser Hill, Muhuri Muchiri, Muvuti, Chavakali, St Peter’s Mumias and Dagoretti High are through to the rugby Sevens quarter-finals in the ongoing Secondary Schools national Term Two games.

Former national champions Laiser Hill and reigning East Africa kings Muhuri Muchiri advanced to the knockouts after finishing first and second in Group A in matches at Eldoret Sports Club.

Laiser Hill won two matches and drew one as Muhuri Muchiri won one, drew one and lost one.

Laiser have 10 points, Muhuri Muchiri have eight while Maseno finished third with six as Kipsombe trailed with without.

Maseno and Kipsombe are the group’s causalities as they failed to qualify for today’s quarters.

Maseno lost their opening match 19-10 to Laiser Hill then drew 14-14 with Muhuri Muchiri before beating Kipsombe 22-0.

However, it was a little too late for the 2014 champions Maseno as their fate depended on Muhuri Muchiri losing by more than 35 points for them to go through.

They were forced out of the contest after  Laiser Hill and Muhuri played to a 7-7 draw.

In the last group match, Laiser Hill went 7-0 up through Brian Kitiva with Fredrick Odongo adding the extras but the East African champions fought back to score in the last play through Peter Daniel who crossed over between the posts and Samuel Gathii converted to share the spoils.

Muchiri Muchiri coach Kikechi Kombo lauded his charges for their fighting spirit saying they will continue fighting for a ticket to East Africa. “We have everything to fight for in this contest,” said Kombo.

“Our East Africa title is at stake and the boys are not ready to end here. They are determined to quality for the regional games so they can defend their honour.”
