Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo has directed that the four suspects linked to the stabbing to death of international rugby player Mike Okombe be held at Menengai Police Station until Monday when they will be produced before the High Court to take plea.

The suspects (from left) Vincent Omondi, Erick Mochache, Calvin Okoth and Maryanne Mumbi (alleged wife of Okombe) will remain in custody for one week after the Chief Magistrate granted the request by police to have them detained to allow more time to complete the investigation.

Okombe, 27, was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend after an alteration at a friend’s birthday party in Nakuru on Saturday night.

It is alleged he was stabbed on the chest and bled profusely before his death.

The murder weapon allegedly used to attack him is still missing.

Okombe began his club career at Western Bulls before shifting allegiance to Nakuru RFC, where he won back-to-back Kenya Cup titles during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
