Gor Mahia yesterday edged out Western Stima 2-1 in their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Kasarani.

Goals from Godfrey Walusimbi and Francis Kahata were enough to give Gor Mahia all three points in a match the powermen dominated early on but later crumbled under pressure.
Stima’s dominance resulted in an early goal in the 17th minute when Vincent Omumbo slotted from the penalty spot.

But after going ahead, Stima simply could not match the urgency of Gor Mahia and Kahata’s equaliser in the 32nd minute with a potential goal of the season put them level.

The former Thika United midfielder scored with a long dropping shot. The Stima backline will also blame themselves for conceding the second watching as Walusimbi’s hit the back of the net unchallenged from long range.

In other matches, Nzoia Sugar, Thika United and Bandari picked maximum points in Wednesday fixtures.

Bandari were the biggest winners after they thrashed Muhoroni Youth 6-2 away and sent the home team further into relegation.
Four goals by Edwin Lavatsa and one each from Baron Oketch and Antony Wambani were enough for Bandari.
The home team had scored through Antony Ambani and Ambrose Ayoyi but it was not enough to help them.

At Mumias Complex, Nzoia Sugar upset newly crowned GOtv champions AFC Leopards 2-0.

Lawrence Juma’s early goal after he beat Gabriel Andika in goal showed Nzoia’s determination to pick all three points in a venue they consider a fortress.

Then Brian Yakhama scored a second in full time and with it jolted Leopards back to earth after the celebrations of winning their first silverware in four years.
Leopards showed great determination to come back into the match early on as they poured their best men forward immediately after going down.

Vincent Oburu and Samuel Ndungu were dangerous on the flanks but they were equally matched by a no-nonsense Nzoia Sugar backline.
