Have they Split? Truth behind Shakira and Gerard Pique Split rumours

Gerard Pique has endured a tough week; a central figure in the Catalan referendum, his support for independence has made him a hate figure for some Spain supporters.

The Barcelona star has also attracted more headlines surrounding his high-profile relationship with pop star Shakira after months without the pair being seen together in public.

Rumours of a 'split' surfaced in the Spanish and Colombian press, but despite a rocky relationship with his country's own supporters, it seems as if things are still strong with the Hips Don't Lie singer.

A statement from Shakira's publicist, issued to HOLA magazine, read:

"Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s relationship is still going strong. Everything is the same."

It added that claims of a split were “only rumors ” from people “who want to harm Pique.”

The former Manchester United star has appeared to confirm their relationship, which is now six years old, remains stable by replying to Shakira's tweet.

Despite threats to walk out on La Furia Roja, the carrot of a World Cup next summer make that possibility remote.

Pique remains a key part of Julen Lopetegui's unbeaten side and with no clear favourite, a second World Cup could become a reality.
