NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga on Monday afternoon paid legendary footballer Joe Kadenge a visit at his Mariakani estate house in Nairobi.

The visit by the NASA leader brought a rare smile to Kadenge’s face who have been experiencing difficult moments in his life of late.  

In a Facebook post, Odinga said if he wins repeat presidential elections scheduled for 26th October 2017, he will set up an initiative to improve the health standards of former heroes and heroines in the country.

“As NASA, on assumption of power, we will put systems in place to ensure our heroes are well catered for in retirement,” he wrote.

Odinga also acknowledged the contributions of sports to the realization of health and national heritage.

“As Kenyans, the value of sport to our health and its contribution to our national heritage can never be overemphasised. With the right management, our sportsmen and women have risen to great heights on the international stage and Kenya is now synonymous with world-class athletic performance, “read part of the statement.

The NASA leader also saluted Joe Kadenge for representing Kenya both locally and in the World stage during his golden days with Kenyan team.

“This afternoon I paid a courtesy call on legendary footballer Joe Kadenge, revered by many football fans young and old alike. For years we were captivated by his seemingly effortless skill and among his numerous achievements is the fact that he scored the first ever goal in the Kenya Premier League. Hongera shujaa Joe Kadenge we salute you,” he said.
