Mezut Ozil linked with move to Manchester United

Arsenal contract rebel Mezut Ozil is hoping for a shock move to Manchester United.

It would mean the 28-year-old Gunners midfielder linking up again with Jose Mourinho, his manager during their time together at Real Madrid.

The German international has decided to run his contract down which means he will be a free agent next summer.

Emirates team-mate Alexis Sanchez who is in an identical contract situation has also been linked with a switch to Old Trafford but the Chilean star is more likely to end up at neighbours Manchester City possibly in the January transfer window.

But Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that Ozils advisors have put out feelers over a potential move to Manchester United and the feedback has been encouraging.

Mourinho is a big fan of the talented playmaker and would encourage the Old Trafford hierarchy to make a move for a player who wont cost a fee.

That would then free up the cash to meet the contract demands of the German who has been asking Arsenal to cough up around £250,000-a-week.

Even though United have made a bright start to the season and look likely Premier League title contenders Mourinho is always planning for the longer term future.

It's why he is considering adding Ozil to his attacking armoury while still holding an interest in Atletico Madrids brilliant French star Antoine Griezmann.

Ozil who is also wanted by Inter Milan, fancies staying in England and moving to a club which has a realistic chance of winning major trophies.

It would be a blow to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger seeing another major star leave for one of the North London clubs rivals.
