Swimming: Loreto dominate Coast swimming tournament

Loreto Convent Mombasa swimmers were the star attraction as the two-day Coast novices swimming gala got underway at Coast Academy on Saturday.

Loreto Convent dominated most of the day one races as they were familiar with the pool.

In girls seven years 100m individual medley (IM), Clara Mbodze (Loreto) raced to victory after clocking two minutes 13.53 while Nyali Primary School’s Alma Wanjogu clocked 2.55.76 for runner-up spot.

In boys’ seven years 100m IM, Nyali’s Jeremy Mwamisi triumphed after posting 2.21.56. Yasin Bagha and Neil Mwangi of Blue Ocean Swim Club and Loreto returned second and third in 2.22.08 and 2.30.56.

In the girls 8-9 years IM category, Gracious Wangui of Loreto won in 1.52.58. Najma Farah (15.53.5) (Oshwal Academy, Mombasa) and Nyali’s Lindsey Nduta (2.01.41) came in second and third.

In girls seven years 25m butterfly, Clara Mbodze of Loreto posted another victory in 26.47 ahead of Mombasa Aquatic’s Hiba Kasmani (30.66) and Nyali’s Alma Wanjogu (30.94).

In boys under seven 25m butterfly, Neil Mwangi (27.35) and Neville Mungai (28.82) of Loreto topped as Nyali’s Talli Kikwai timed 29.42 for third position.

Lindsey Nduta of Nyali added another trophy after she clocked 22.88 to win the girls 8-9 year 25m fly race. Loreto’s Gracious Wangui returned second in 23.16 while Najma Farah (Oshwal Academy, Mombasa) came in third in 23.53.

Sylvia Onunga earned Loreto another trophy after she won the girls’ 10-11 years 50m fly in 49.40. Anika Adie also from Loreto timed 51.31 for the second spot while Asmara Dhalla of Mombasa Aquatics settled for third place. [Ernest Ndunda]
