Kenya's date with destiny as Caf inspection team arrives

Kenya’s date with destiny is here as a delegation from the Confederation of African Football starts a final inspection of facilities.

This will determine whether the country can host next year’s Africa Nations Championships (Chan).

The inspection starts in Nairobi tomorrow when the delegation tours the Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums as well as a number of designated training facilities.

These include the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Kenyatta University, Utalii, and Post Bank training ground.

On Wednesday, the inspection team flies to Meru to see progress at Kinoru Stadium as well as the newly opened Isiolo international airport. Meru Polytechnic and Meru Teachers College, earmarked as training grounds, will also be assessed.

On Thursday, the team moves to Machakos. In their focus will be upgrading work at Machakos Stadium. The two designated training grounds, Machakos Teachers College and Machakos University, will be assessed as well.

The tour ends on Friday in Eldoret. On Saturday the team will announce if Kenya has done enough to host the tournament.

Caf’s delegation will be led by vice president Constant Omari. Others in the delegation are officials in charge of broadcasting, competitions, media, and marketing. [Gilbert Wandera]
