Handball action: Kamusinga Girls fall to Kibuli in final tie

Moi Girls Kamusinga surrendered the East Africa Secondary Schools handball title after suffering a 21-25 defeat.

They fell to Uganda’s Kibuli Secondary School as the 2017 games ended yesterday at St Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu, Uganda.

In the boys' contest E.S Kigoma of Rwanda beat Kibuli 25-22 to reclaim the trophy.

Kamusinga, who had already lost the national crown, fought to save their regional title, but their dreams were shattered by the Ugandans who were keen to restore Uganda’s handball dominance. National champions St Anne’s Sega took bronze after beating 2014 champions Mbogo Secondary School of Uganda 24-22.

Kamusinga coach Godfrey Simiyu said his players had fought a good fight.

“Most of my players were participating in these games for the first time and being in the final is something they can build on ahead of next year’s games.

“We leave with invaluable lessons having gained experience and I believe we will come back stronger next year,” Simiyu said.

Dynamic of Uganda beat Adegi of Rwanda 24-19 to take the boys bronze. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
