Facilities: Gulu's sports infrastructure improved

  •  Pece Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies
  • U-16: FEASSSA planning age-group competition

As this year's East Africa Secondary School Games begin on Saturday, residents of Northern Uganda's town of Gulu will have a chance to see a swimming pool for the first time.

The newly constructed pool at St Joseph's Layibi School is just part of the continued improvement of sports infrastructure in the area.

Pece Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as Kaunda Grounds, were refurbished to meet the required standards.

U-16: FEASSSA planning age-group competition

Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) is planning to form an Under-16 regional tournament to accommodate young students.

FEASSSA President Justus Mugisha said there is need for a separate event because players aged between 13 and 16 take longer to participate at the regional games and some even give up altogether.

"We want to introduce a competition for younger players because they are left out of our current Under-19 championships where senior players take all slots due to experience.

We fear that they might give up on their talents after waiting for long, hence the need to create one for them."
