Kenya captain Victor Wanyama could play in the first game against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Spurs midfielder missed their 2-0 victory against Juventus in the last preseason friendly, due to a knee injury he suffered a while back.

A video shared by Tottenham on Twitter showed Wanyama training in preparation for the match.

Spurs finished second last season where Wanyama was key in the midfield.

He joined the North London side in June 2016 playing a vital role in the title challenge that just fell short.

Wanyama who was signed from Southampton FC scored four goals in 36 appearances, 35 of which he was named to the starting lineup.

Tottenham’s weekend opponents Newcastle won the English Championship to earn a promotion to the EPL.

Coached by Rafael Benitez, the Magpies will start their campaign on the back of a 2-0 victory over Italian Serie B side Hellas Verona.
