Colleges: Nakuru hit Kitui as games begin

Kitui Medical Training College surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Nakuru as the 10th edition of the Kenya Medical Training College national games started yesterday at Shanzu Teachers Training College, Mombasa.

Abdalla Ramos scored an own goal in the fifth minute to give Kitui an early lead before Smith Ng'eno added the second in the 16th minute for a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Nakuru came back stronger in the second half as Desmond Mukolwe pulled one back in the 58th minute. Fredrick Okumu equalised in the 68th minute before Mukolwe added his second with four minutes to full time.

In netball, Nakuru also rallied from behind to defeat Mombasa 26-25. In men's volleyball, Eldoret defeated Lake Victoria 3-1 (25-11, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21), while in the women's category, Kisii defeated Port Reitz of Mombasa County 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18).

In athletics, Nairobi Medical Training College relinquished their overall title to Nyamira, who won with 54 points. Nairobi were second with 48 points, while Meru finished third with 35 points.

In men's 100m, Isaiah Joshua of Webuye clocked 10.81 for victory with Josphat Oyaro (Port Reitz) finishing second in 11.14. Nyeri's Raphael Mwangi was third in 11.74 seconds. Oyaro mastered his steps well when he won the 200m race in 22.62 seconds.  [Ernest Ndunda]
