Kisumu Day and Nyakach win Nyanza COPA Coca-Cola U-16 titles, qualify for nationals

Kisumu Day Secondary School and Nyakach Secondary School are the COPA Coca-Cola under 16 Nyanza Regional Soccer Tournament champions for the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.

The final day of the Nyanza regional tournament pitted Kisumu Day Secondary School against their arch rivals, Barding High School, whom they edged out in a hard-fought one-nil duel to book a ticket to represent Nyanza Region at the COPA Coca Cola Under-16 National Soccer Tournament Finals.

The girl’s category saw Nyakach Secondary School stroll over Ugari Mixed Secondary School, scoring three goals to ensure their safe passage to the national finals.

In the third and fourth place girls play-offs, Kobala Secondary School saw off Abwao Secondary School 3-1 on post-match penalties after drawing 1-1 during regulation time. In the boys’ play-offs, Oruba Secondary School, who wept after losing at the semi-final stage, whipped Wera Secondary School 5–0 to reclaim third spot at the tournament.
