Western Stima inflict first loss on Gor Mahia

Western Stima came from a goal down to silence Gor Mahia 2-1 in an entertaining Kenyan Premier League match at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

Jacques Tuyisenge gave Gor Mahia the lead in the 16th minute via a controversial penalty given when Timothy Otieno went down with the slightest of touches by defender Jackson Saleh. Fredrick Shimonyo then levelled, also from the spot, when Musa Mohamed brought down substitute Herbart Kopany before rounding off with a brilliant goal in the 77th minute.

Keen on making amends for their first loss of the season, Western Stima kicked off the match on the right footing and within the first five minutes had already won two corners, but failed to break down Gor Mahia’s defence.

With a solid defence anchored on centre-backs Jackson Saleh and Vitalis Akumu, Gor’s striking pair of Tuyisenge and Otieno found it tough to penetrate the Western Stima backline despite a wave of attacks.

At Awendo Green Stadium, hosts Sony beat Thika United 1-0 courtesy of Amos Asembeka in the 89th minute to win their second game of the season.

And at the Kericho Green Stadium, Kepha Aswani and Joshua Oyoo were on target as Nakumatt saw off hosts Zoo Kericho to end their goal drought.
