Monday ditches Tusker: GorMahia , Leopards release several players

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker have lost experienced midfielder Osborne Monday.

The player whose contract expired on December 31 is training with Kariobangi Sharks.

Tusker Chief Executive Officer Charles Obiny said they have made up their minds to do without the player this season.

“His contract has expired and even though we wanted to renew it, he is not willing and therefore can do nothing about it.

“We have information that he is training with Kariobangi Sharks and can only wish him the best,” said Obiny.

Obiny at the same time said Tusker have extended the contracts of three other key players by a period of two years each.

They include midfielders Clifford Alwanga and Brian Osumba, both formerly of Kenya Commercial Bank as well as experienced defender Lloyd Wahome, formerly of Mathare United.

“There is need for continuity and for this reason we have extended the stay of this three players. We have a long season this year and need all our best players,” he said.

Two new players former Chemelil Sugar defender Samuel Olwande and Sydney Ochieng from Palos have joined the Ruaraka side.

Apart from winning the KPL and GOtv Shield titles, Tusker will represent the country in this year’s CAF Champions League.

In other transfer news, AFC Leopards have dropped seven players.

Among the big names let go are goalkeper Lucas Indeche and defender Edwin Wafula the club announced on their website.

Others are Moussa Sissoko, Jackson Saleh, Bernard Ongoma, Yusuf Suf Owino and Yusuf Juma.

“Wafula and Indeche are out of contract and will not be offered new ones. Sissoko and Saleh asked to rejoin their parent clubs while Bernard Ongoma on the other hand has joined the armed forces.

“Yusuf Owino Suf and Yusuf Juma have requested to leave the club,” the club said in a statement.

Gor Mahia have also let go of nine players who include, Chrispin Odula, Baron Jobita, Jackson Saleh, Luke Ochieng, Gradus Ochieng, Sammy Okinda, Ronald Omino, Bernard Odhiambo and Jacob Keli.
