AFC Leopards and Sofapaka played out to a 1-1 draw in today’s battle of unfit ‘cats’ in the SPortPesa Premier League match at the City Stadium.

Leopards took the lead through Ivan Anguyo’s first half penalty kick before his strike was cancelled out by Collins Shivachi’s unstoppable free kick.

“Tough months in the Den, but at the end a draw against a team like Sofapaka is a fair result. We were a better side and we should have won because we created more chances,” said AFC coach Zdravko Logarusic.

“For the last 18 days we have not trained properly. It was all about individual quality. We conceded a penalty due to lack of concentration and lack of fitness.”

Sofapaka coach David Ouma said: “We are rebuilding the team, we have seen that the team is stabilising as we head to Top 8 against Sony Sugar.”

Ingwe started a brighter side, threatening in the second minute, but Laminne Diallo missed Edwin Wafula’s cross from the right before the Ivorian failed again to capitalise on Felly Mulumba’s defensive mistake.

In the fourth minute, Patrick Kagogo saw his brilliant strike at the edge of the box hit the crossbar before Mbakiye Miami and Mulumba’s headers went over the bar.

In the 25th minute, Miami had another chance to break the deadlock, but fluffed his shot before AFC striker Michael Khamati squandered a precious scoring chance with only goalkeeper David Okello to beat.

Ten minutes later, Khamati tapped wide from close range Kagogo’s cross before his feeble header went directly into Okello’s hands.
Anguyo put Leopards in the driving seat from the spot on the stroke of half time after Wycliffe Opondo handled the ball in the area.

Sofapaka responded immediately and could have levelled the score, but goalkeeper Lucas Indeche parried away John Baraza’s effort for a fruitless corner.

Just before the hour mark, Indeche made a fine save, stopping Miami’s penalty kick after Israel Emuge’s handball.

Meanwhile Ali Abondo scored a brace while Michael Olunga and Haron Shakava added one each as Gor Mahia edged out hard fighting Palos 4-2 in their GOtv shield match at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.

The visiting Kisumu side had scored through Calvince Omanga who netted a brace but it was not enough to give them a historical result. Gor Mahia started well and were always threatening right from the word go which overwhelmed their opponents.
