The 14th and final leg of this year’s Barclays Golf Circuit, which  will be played at the par 72 Muthaiga Golf Club tomorrow, has attracted over 220 players.

The big field will see golfers battle it out for the six slots available in the grand finale on February 22 at Karen Golf and Country Club.

The day-long tournament comes after other events in Limuru, Eldoret, Nakuru, Machakos, Nyanza, Thika, Sigona, Nyali, Windsor, Nyeri, Royal, Karen, and Vet Lab.

According to Muthaiga Golf Club captain Bhavnish Chandaria, the course is in excellent condition, but challenging, and he expects modest scores during the event.

“The course is currently playing good. It is in championship condition as we have prepared it for the Kenya Open Pro-Am tournament set for early next month when we host some of the best golfers on the European Tour,” said Chandaria.

He added: “The greens are extremely fast and firm and the roughs are severe, so players should come prepared for an entertaining round of golf.”

Saturday’s event comes two weeks after the 13th leg was held at the par 72 Vet Lab Golf Club on January 25 where home player John D’Souza broke his duck to win his first major golf event in his 16-month career.

D’Souza emerged the overall winner on an impressive 44 Stableford points and nine players, six from the home club and three from Golf Park, booked tickets to the coveted finale.

The overall winner in the grand finale will land a fully paid golfing tour on expansive golf courses in South Africa, while the top 20 in the finale will get slots to play at the Barclays Kenya Open Golf Pro-Am early next month.
