It’s one of the most popular messaging apps around, but some WhatsApp users might have to look for alternatives soon.

WhatsApp has announced that it will soon withdraw support for all smartphones running on Windows operating systems.

If you have a Windows phone, you don’t have long to look for alternative options - the support will be withdrawn in just over six months.

WhatsApp explained: “You'll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019.

“Because we no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time.”

And it isn’t just Windows phones that WhatsApp is cutting support for.

In February 2020, you’ll no longer be able to use the app on Android versions 2.3.7 and older, or iOS 7 and older.
