You want to go to ‘heaven’ quickly? Play with a married woman

A 21-year-old university student, Steven Kamande Wanjohi, who is alleged to have sent nude photos of a married to her husband, should count his lucky stars that he landed him in court.

Wanjohi, a Giguyu name that loosely translates to booze, was also charged with wrongful distribution of obscene materials and harassing the woman and threatening to kill her. The suspect is said to have sent photos in which he appeared intimate with the woman to her husband, an offense he committed between May 1, 2021, and January 14, 2022.

According to court records, Kamande sent the message knowing it was false and calculated to cause fear and panic to the family.

Kamande denied the charges before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and was granted a bond of Sh200,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000. The case will be mentioned on March 1.

He remains innocent until proven guilty, but he is a lucky boy. The Swahili say, “Bibi ya mtu ni sumu,” whenever a case of infidelity comes to light.

This phrase is mostly used to warn randy men whose pastime is preying on people’s wives that they are playing Russian roulette, a game that could explode their scrotum into smithereens any second — and we are talking knobkerrie, not multiple orgasms

Many are the men who have come and gone, busted in the act, by angry husbands who wasted no time dispatching them to the other world. And men are the men who have been beaten to within an inch of death, on the mere suspicion that they were poking a finger into a betrothed honey pot.

Remember the 19-year-old high school student in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, who was stabbed to death after he was found in the act with a married woman, last year August?

Jasphet Bii, whose 35-year-old wife the young lad was riding like a nduthi aka boda boda on his matrimonial bed had been away and returned home around 3am in the morning and caught them red handed. It was reported that an enraged Bii grabbed a sword, stabbed young Kipng’etich before melting into the darkness. The boy later succumbed to injuries at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.

Still in Nakuru County, Julius Kiplagat turned himself in to police Menengai West Police Station claiming he had hacked a neighbour to death for allegedly sleeping with his wife in Rongai. He told detectives that the deceased, Kipkemboi Tomno, was having an illicit affair with his wife. The incident occurred in May last year.

In October 2020, a 22-year-old in Trans-Nzoia County was arrested for allegedly killing a 21-year-old man after busting him in bed with his wife.

Tyson Wafula allegedly walked in and found his wife and the deceased who was identified as Emanuel Kyalo playing cha baba and cha mama. He rushed to the kitchen, picked a knife and stabbed him repeatedly.

Wafula succumbed to the stab wounds at the Endebess Sub-County Hospital.

And three years ago, a woman who was alleged to be having a love affair with her husband’s nephew was shot dead by police at City Park in Nairobi.

Janet Wangui Waiyaki, 41 and Bernard Chege, 26, according to police who visited the scene on May 20, were having sex inside their car at the public park.

They were ambushed and Wangui shot under unclear circumstances. She later died in hospital.

Wangui’s husband, George Kirubi, told the media that relatives and warned the two against engaging intimately.

On the day of the fatal shooting, police reportedly found Wangui’s underpants on the floor of the car.

When they were requested to lower the windows of the car by the cops, Chege is said to have stopped what they were doing and jumped to the driver’s seat and attempted to drive off. The police officers said they opened fire when the occupants refused to cooperate.

Why do men insist on playing with fire?

Counselling psychologist James Mbugua argues that both parties who engage in illicit sex are to blame.

“Young men who date older and married mostly do it to make ends,” he explained

What complicated matters is that many women who are in their 40s and 50s are sexually active but feel neglected by ageing husbands who are either past their prime or are fooling around with girls are young enough to be their daughters .

Not that cheating is a new phenomenon. In days past, when polygamous men in their 70s were known to have young wives in their 20s, the practice was for them to arrive home in style — singing drunken songs, or barking orders to the effect that the man of the home had arrived. The theatrics were meant to accord men who might be with their wives time to take cover. Today’s husband comes in stealth, armed with a sharp machete.
