Kabras Sugar seeded top as Prinsloo 7s kicks-off

Series leaders Kabras Sugar are top seeds in the Prinsloo Sevens that kicks-off with Age Grading Championships at Nakuru Athletic Club this morning.

Kabras are in Pool A alongside Kisumu RFC, Homeboyz and Western Bulls and are expected to easily reach the knockout stages.

Arch-rivals Nakuru RFC and Menengai Oilers lock horns again in the fourth derby this season in the Pool B fixtures in what is expected to be an explosive match tomorrow.

The two sides met in the Dala Sevens in Kisumu three weeks and Nakuru RFC won the match 19-14 and Menengai Oilers head coach Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru said he’s not taking the defeat lightly.

“Whenever we meet (with Nakuru RFC), it has always been a tough match. And in derbies, a team does not easily clinch two consecutive victories in a row and they (Nakuru) know this and they should be ready for a dose of a similar medicine,” Weru told Standard Sports.

Oilers are the reigning Prinsloo champions.

Also in Pool B are Nondescript and Catholic University Monks.

Former champions KCB are in Pool C with Kenya Harlequin, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.

Strathmore University’s Leos, Mwamba RFC, Daystar Falcons and Zetech Oaks make up Pool D.

Meanwhile, The Prinsloo Sevens kicks-off with the Age Grading Championships that has attracted a number of youthful teams from all over the country.

The draws will be released this morning (Friday) according to the tournament director Kevin Rodriguez.

“We’ll release the draws for the Age Grading Championships this morning but beware it’s a big tournament,” he told Standard Sports.
