The county government has formed a task-force to steer improved fish production and address challenges facing fishermen.

The seven-man committee headed by Egerton University's Prof Francis Lelo has 28 days to come up with recommendations to improve the fishing industry.

The county has several water bodies, with lakes Naivasha, Nakuru and Solai enabling fishing locally.

According to Dr Enos Amuyunzu, the County's Agriculture and Livestock Chief Officer, one of the assignments the task-force has been tasked with is to triple fish production. “The county has capability of earning Sh1 billion from the fisheries sector,” he said.
