One week old baby thrown in a pit latrine rescued in Mogotio

A one-week-old baby boy rescued from a pit latrine is recuperating at Mogotio Sub-county Hospital.

Area Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Luka Tumbo said the incident happened at Karachorongot estate.

It was reported yesterday before the baby was taken to hospital, Mr Tumbo said. “Curious residents went to the toilet after they heard the baby crying.

The baby, who had been wrapped well, was found near the hole," he said. He added that they are yet to establish who dumped the baby, but have launched investigations into the matter. “Investigations have been launched to know ... where the person is from and the reason behind the act," he said.

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl was arrested after she threw her newborn baby into a pit latrine at Tirkatol.

These incidents have occurred a month after police officers at Mogotio Police Station rescued a three-day-old baby who had been dumped in a latrine at the Livestock Improvement Centre.

"Cases of newborns being dumped are on the increase in this area, and a solution to this matter is needed," said Tumbo.
