Ex-convict from Kamiti prison kills son in Sotik

An ex-convict has hacked his 2-year-old son to death using a panga in Sotik.

40-year-old David Chelule who was released from Kamiti Maximum Prison two months ago turned against the boy claiming he was not his biological son.

Neighbours at Kaptilolwo Village said the suspect committed the offence while his wife was away

The mutilated body of the boy was found by a neighbour who raised alarm.

The suspect escaped death narrowly after irate members of the public descended on him before the police came to his rescue.

Confirming the incident, Sotik Sub County Police Commander Francis Ng’ang’a said investigation into the incident had commenced.

One neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said the suspect had been convicted in 2014 for attempted murder.

The neighbour said the suspect had wanted to kill his brother’s son and was found guilty of the offence.

He said since his release, he had constantly quarrelled with his wife of 10 years over the child.

“He has frequently quarrelled his wife accusing her of infidelity. We did not know the differences over the child will degenerate into such an incident,” the neighbour added.

The Wednesday afternoon incident brought normal business to a standstill in the village.

Shock and anger were evident among the residents who asked the police to release the suspect and allow them to beat him.

“He deserves ‘instant justice’ for taking away the life of an innocent child over his difference with his wife,” Robert Korir a resident told the standard.

Mr Ng’ang’a said the body of the deceased has been taken to Kapkatet Hospital morgue.
