Chief Justice David Maraga is recuperating after he was involved in an early morning accident on Saturday. In a tweet seen by the Standard Digital, the CJ said;
My wife and I were involved in an accident in Nakuru this morning on our way to Church. We are undergoing medical observation. My driver and aide who were with us are also okay. We thank God for His mercies. Thank you Kenyans for your prayers and concern. — David Maraga (@dkmaraga) December 22, 2018
Maraga and his wife Yucabeth Nyaboke were admitted at the War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru after they were involved in a road accident at Ng'ata Bridge along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
Confirming the incident, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mongo Chimwanga said the accident occurred at around 9.45am
Chimwanga said Maraga and his wife were on their way to Church when the accident occurred.
"The Chief Justice was involved in an accident at Ng'ata Bridge, they were heading to church when it occurred," he said.
They are both in stable condition.
The CJ, his wife and their driver were using their official car. Their driver however escaped unhurt.
According to police, the vehicle they were driving in was hit from behind. "The CJ’s driver was not injured as their vehicle appeared to have been hit from the rear," he said.
The driver of the personal vehicle that hit the CJ's car is being attended to at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital.
Reports reaching Standard Digital say that President Uhuru has ordered the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to airlift them to Nairobi where they will receive further treatment.
