An unidentified woman was found murdered at Mariakani Estate in Nakuru Town East.

The body of the woman, who appeared to be in her 50s, was found Monday morning lying in a pool of blood and covered in a heap of stones suspected to have been used to kill her.

According to area MCA Isaac Wahome, who arrived at the scene accompanied by police officers, the woman might have been picked elsewhere since no report of missing person had been made.

The woman had also been stripped naked, which raised suspicion that the attackers could have raped her before killing her.

“She might have identified them (rapists), making the suspects kill her to conceal their identity,” said Mr Wahome.

Wahome added that rising insecurity in the area had made the residents reluctant to respond to distress calls for fear of being attacked.

“Those living near the scene reported having heard screams from the victim at around 1am,” said Wahome.

The body was taken to Nakuru County mortuary pending investigations.

Local residents called on the county government to install street lights in the area.

They also called on police to intensify patrols in the estate as it had been neglected since it is at the border of Nakuru North and Nakuru East.

Suicide incident

Meanwhile, a man hanged himself at Lunyinya village in Malava sub-county.

Area assistant chief George Mukunga said Musa Lutomia, 86, returned home drunk and picked a quarrel with relatives who had converged at his home for a memorial service of their kin.

“A scuffle ensued between him and some of the relatives and when he saw no one was defending him, he walked into his house where his body was found hanging moments later," said Mr Mukunga.

Elsewhere, police in Kakamega are investigating the death of a night guard who was found dead while seated at his place of work.

The 68-year-old man was found dead at Kambi Somali within the town.

Kakamega Central OCPD Joseph Chebii said officers were investigating the incident.

“We are yet to establish his identity since his employer does not have copies of his personal documents, such as an ID. According to reports, the watchman was sickly,” said Chebii.

The body was taken to Kakamega County mortuary for postmortem.
