Property destroyed as KMTC students go on rampage

Nakuru: Property worth millions of shillings was on Sunday night destroyed at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Nakuru campus after students went on the rampage.

The students disconnected the electricity supply and descended on private security officers at the main gate, where they damaged external telephone systems cutting off communication.

The students who were reacting to alleged oppression by the management also descended on the cashier’s office at the dining hall, where they pulled down the steel door and made away with the safe with an unknown amount of money.

They also smashed windows in almost all the offices, including that of the hostel’s chief warden, broke chairs, computers, fridges and stole several litres of milk at the dining hall stores. A contingent of riot police from Nakuru had to be called in to avert more destruction and arrested scores of them.
