Kajiado, Kenya: Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has called on political leaders in Kajiado County to bury their political differences and concentrate in development projects.
Speaking after handing over the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) office in Kajiado town to the newly elected MP Elijah Memusi, Nkaissery urged all leaders to join hands and develop the constituency.
"After almost 15 years, I'm now passing the baton to Mr Memusi. I urge him to work with everyone, including those who did not vote for him. For the people of Kajiado Central, Memusi is now your political father. You should respect him," said Nkaissery.
Mr Memusi thanked the voters for electing him as their MP. He extended an olive branch to his opponents, saying the time for campaign is over, and it is time to deliver the promises he made to the electorate.
Memusi said his victory was not a walk in park since he was competing against an opponent backed by Government machinery and resources.
"Let us forget what happened during the campaign and work together. I am happy that the voters of Kajiado Central were not intimidated by the Government machinery, but decided to follow their hearts' wishes," said Memusi.

He said he would not be the peoples' boss, but a servant.
"Currently, my in-tray is only full of pledges to the electorate. Top on my agenda is to initiate income generating projects to the people, most of who are very poor," said the ODM legislator.
Water being a top priority for pastoralists, Memusi promised to source for funds and supply fresh water to the residents.
He will also look at the education sector in the area, where students have to travel long distances to school.
"We will bring electricity in schools, construct bridges that connect learning institutions and other parts of the constituency," he said.
Meanwhile, days after Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) lost in the Kajiado Central by-election to CORD, a section of Kajiado JAP leaders have opposed a petition by their candidate and vowed to support the newly elected MP.
Speaking at a public gathering in Ilodokilani ward that was attended by leaders from the political divide, JAP leaders registered their opposition to the petition by the poll loser Patrick Tutui.
"We campaigned with all the means but lost in the mini polls. Our rivals never rigged the elections. The will of the people prevailed," said Olkeri MCA Onesmus Ngogoyo.
