MP tells off governors for rejecting equipment

Kipkelion, Kenya: An MP has said legislators will go for medical equipment bought by the Government and supervise their installation should governors continue to frustrate the project.

Kipkelion East MP Joseph Limo faulted the governors decision saying ordinary Kenyans are suffering and all they want is access to equipment that treats terminal diseases and that keeps them from having to travel far and wide for treatment.

"There is a lot of suffering and needless loss of life at the county level due to lack of crucial medical equipment. This is why the Government decided to lease the equipment," Mr Limo said.

FUSSING LEADERS

He continued: "Should governors continue to cause a fuss over the medical equipment, MPs will go for them and supervise their installation at health facilities which have been earmarked to benefit from the programme."

The legislator was speaking in Londiani stadium when he issued Uwezo Fund cheques worth Sh17 million to various groups.

Limo said leasing the equipment is the best option since maintenance cost is shouldered by the manufacturer who also replaces them once they become obsolete.

"That is the trend worldwide but instead of governors focusing on real issues, they are talking of trivial matters even claiming that they were not consulted. Why should it matter to them when it is the Government that will shoulder the cost of the machines?" he asked.
