7 teachers arrested for disrupting learning

Laikipia, Kenya: Seven teachers from Laikipia County were yesterday arrested at Sipili trading centre for allegedly planning to storm several schools and disrupt learning.

The teachers, among them officials from Kenya National Union of Teachers and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education of Teachers (Kuppet) were in a group of more than 70 protesters. Police officers laid a trap in Lariak Day secondary school after they got information that the striking teachers planned to eject their colleagues who were attending to students.

"It is our right to participate in a strike and the act by the police will not stop us,"  said Kuppet branch executive secretary Ndungu Wangenye.
