Joy as water project ends residents’ woes

Kajiado, Kenya: For years, water scarcity has been a major problem for Magadi residents who depend entirely on seasonal rivers and a few boreholes, which they share with their livestock.

Waterborne diseases are also rampant as locals share untreated water with domestic and wild animals.

The water scarcity often forces them to walk for kilometres to fetch water using donkeys.

But the launch of the Musenke water project has put a smile on the faces of over 3,000 people in the area who will have access to clean water.

The piped water project, worth Sh15 million, has been funded by the county government in a bid to address the problem experienced in the far-flung, hot Kajiado West.

Speaking during the launch of the project at the weekend, Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye said the availability of water would improve residents’ livelihoods of residents and eventually speed up development. He said his government would ensure there is enough water.
