Naivasha, Kenya: There was drama in the sprawling Karagita estate after locals flog-marched a suspected thief and lynched him after allegedly robbing a trader.

With cases of house breaking in the estate on the increase, the irate members of the public cornered the suspect and set on him with crude weapons before setting his body on fire.

The incident came barely a day after another suspect who was working with the deceased was arrested by police over a series of house breaking.

And yesterday night over 200 members of the public raided Maruti area where the suspect lived alone following an earlier robbery.

According to a witness Samuel Ngunjiri they recovered some of the stolen household goods belonging to a local trader.

Ngunjiri said that for weeks a group of youths had been terrorizing area residents robbing them and breaking into their houses.

“We managed to recover some of the stolen items and recovered several master-keys before dealing with the suspect,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the incident noting that the body had been collected by police and taken to Naivasha district hospital mortuary.

“We are calling on members of the public to desist from lynching suspects as this is against the law,” he said.
