There was drama in Kasarani village in Naivasha when armed administration police raided various dens involved in brewing illicit brews.

The officers confiscated over 3,000 litres of the illicit brews and arrested five people including two notorious brewers.

During the Sunday midday operation, locals were treated to comedy of errors as some of the drunkards tried unsuccessfully to escape from the law enforcers.

“Some were too drunk to even walk and collapsed by the roadside when police moved in,” said a witness Raul Gitau.

Naivasha sub-county commissioner Mohammed Abass said that the officers managed to destroy equipment used to brew the lethal drinks.

“This operation shall continue in the whole constituency until we get rid of all illicit brews,” said Abass.

Meanwhile, one person died on the spot along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway following a grisly accident involving a personal car.

The accident near Karai trading centre in Naivasha occurred after a vehicle heading down hill lost control and rolled several times.

A passenger in the ill-fated car died on the spot while the driver was rushed to Naivasha district hospital in critical condition.

A witness Paul Muhia said that the vehicle was heading to Naivasha from Nairobi when the driver veered off the road.

“The driver swerved from the road and the car rolled several times killing the passenger,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the accident which he termed as self-involving adding that the driver was in stable condition.

“The mangled wrecks have been towed to Naivasha police station while the body is at the local morgue,” he said.
