Ida asks South Rift voters to support Raila bid

By Edwin Makiche

Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida, has urged South Rift residents to bury the hatchet with her husband and support him during the coming elections.

Referring to the talks between the Premier and Eldoret North MP William Ruto, Ida said it was the right time for the Kalenjin community to join forces with ODM to win the March elections.

“Let us come together as we did in 2007, we were headed in the right direction but could not make it due to circumstances beyond our control. If the Premier has wronged you, I am here to apologise on his behalf,’’she said.

Ida, who was accompanied by Home Affairs Assistant minister Beatrice Kones, made stopovers at several places before addressing members of Sibanduki Na Raila lobby group in Bomet town.

Mau evictions

She said she would personally tour all counties to popularise Raila.

She also urged the Kalenjin women to support the dialogue between Raila and Ruto. Ms Kones lauded the Ruto-Raila alliance talk, saying the Kalenjin community would benefit more if the talks bear fruit.

She also urged residents to stop blaming the PM for the Mau evictions, saying his office was only tasked with implementation.

Meanwhile, Roads Minister Franklin Bett has called on Ruto to humble himself and form an alliance with the PM as he (Ruto) would become the President in 2017.
