Churchill thrills with Oh my God!

By Kiundu Waweru

Oh my God! This phrase went viral when a cheating woman was busted by her husband on radio. In shock, the woman uttered the phrase for over 10 times capturing people's imagination.

And drawing from such real life experiences, a leading comedian and director at Heartstrings Kenya, conceptualised a stage performance that laughs at a society gone mad. The play has been cracking people’s ribs for two weeks at the Alliance Francaise.

Oh My God! written by Dan Ndambuki, aka Churchill, and directed by Sammy Mwangi and Victor Ber, is a comedy that highlights human being’s tendency to call on God’s name after doing a regrettable thing.

In a series of episodes, the comedy showcases Kenyan social and political life full of immorality.

Last year, Churchill was drawn in a scandalous pit when a group of ‘shadowy foreigners’ claimed that he was caught making out with a married woman.

The comedian vehemently denied the allegations and managed to steer clear of the controversy.

Oh My God! features a scene where a prominent married man has been caught red-handed making love to another woman. The neighbours meet and plans how to cover up the scam. His wife never gets wind of it.

On the same note, the theater group satirizes the political shenanigans in Kenya by enacting a fund raising scene to save the Ocampo Six. Even the IDPs contribute millions of shillings towards this noble cause. The play runs to Sunday.
