Former Rangers club owners want them back

A new leadership row has erupted at Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Rangers.

Former officials of the club, which was initially, sponsored by the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) want the team back but its current owners have dismissed the move as too late in the day.

The KPL has been forced to intervene and has suspended grants to the club until ownership of the club is determined and its officials known.

KPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Oguda said they are concerned about who are the real owners of Rangers and until this is made clear, the club will not receive its share of the SuperSport grants.

"We want to be told how the club changed hands from the original owners to the current officials. Something does not add up in the whole matter and the KPL governing council wants answers," he said.

The team’s CEO Errol King said they signed a memorandum of understanding with former officials of the club in March and the same was submitted to KPL who approved it.

"It is not fair for KPL to wake up after 11 matches and start asking about who the owners of the club are. The team has been taking part in the league with their consent. They have all our correspondences regarding change of ownership which they have acknowledged," he said.

He showed documents proving the change of ownership as registered at the Registrar of Companies.

"If we had not taken over this club, they would have been no more. We are in charge and have continued to pay salaries and other obligations for the team. All that is happening are sideshows."
