Mikel Arteta explains why he was shouting so much in Arsenal's defeat to Man City

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why he was shouting so much from the touchline during his side’s defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling’s second-minute header was enough to secure a quite comfortable victory for the Sky Blues at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal created very few chances of note to get themselves back into the match.

But that only seemed to make Arteta even more vocal in the dugout as he barked orders at his players.

Speaking after the defeat, the Spaniard defended his vocal approach, insisting that he has to stay on top of his players at all times.

“Because every movement, every detail, every position is key,” explained Arteta when asked why he was non-stop shouting on the sidelines.

“The moment we don't get it, like we didn't in the first minutes, they're going to exploit it straightaway and they're going to make you look like a poor team.

“Probably I do it too much, I don't know, but I think it's very necessary for them that I give them guidance because I can see from the outside what they are going to do and when you are there at 100mph you lose a second or two and with them that's a huge amount of time.”

With so many instructions, there could surely be a danger that Arteta is overloading his side with information.

But he insists that it is no different than a conversation in which he would tell his players where to right their wrongs.

“No. I don't think that's the case,” he said on overloading his players.

“It's just conversations that we have all the time with them about what we do and if there's a moment where I feel that's the case then I will stop it.”

Arsenal face Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday before a trip to Leicester next Sunday.
