National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has urged President William Ruto to focus on turning around the economy instead of entertaining leaders engaging in political sideshows.

Wetang'ula told the Head of State that he would only succeed in his economic recovery plan if he doesn't give an ear to his political detractors.

The Speaker revealed that President Ruto has put in place elaborate measures to revive the economy and no amount of distraction should make him go off the course.

Wetang'ula said no leader in the world has inherited a working economy and left a legacy.

"The President has embarked on building an economy he inherited when in tatters. Do your best, and Kenyans will ask for more of your leadership at the end of your second term," he said.

"All great leaders in the world have made a name for building their economies that were in tatters. You are capable of doing the same and going into the books of history," he added:

The Speaker made the remarks when he joined the President and other leaders for an interdenominational service at Sagana State Lodge, Nyeri county, yesterday.

He commended lawmakers from both Houses for their unrelenting support for the Head of State as he implements his agenda.

"I commend the  MPs for being steadfast and focused on rallying their support behind the president to make his dream come true," he added.

"As your leadership in the House, I will give the necessary guidance and opportunity to excel in whatever the law allows you to undertake," he added.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi hit out at the opposition for what he termed as placing obstacles in the President's path.

"The economy was worse in their reign, and what they are doing has nothing to do with the high cost of living but they are using it as an excuse because they did not believe a chicken seller could become president," he said.

He said the cost of living can't be solved in the streets or by people sitting in boardroom meetings for the proposed talks.

"Nothing will come out from the talks. Do we need people to use taxpayers' money to discuss things that will not take the country forward?" Posed Kingi.

"When one has a boil, it must be squeezed for one to heal. Locals will cry but don't let loose. There will be protests and insults but keep going until the country stabilizes," he added.
