ODM leader Raila Odinga yesterday received a boost after North Eastern leaders backed his State House bid

Mandera leaders allied to the United Democratic Movement (UDM) led by Governor Ali Roba, Speaker Mohamed Khalif, MPs Adan Haji (Mandera West), Omar Hassan (Mandera East), Abdi Mude (Lafey) and Hassan Kullow Maalim of Banissa threw their weight behind Azimio la Umoja.

Raila is the presidential flag bearer of Azimio, which has the blessings of President Kenyatta. Governor Roba is expected to be unveiled as UDM party leader while his Marsabit counterpart Mohamud Ali will be deputy party leader.

“UDM is progressing as a valuable political outfit. We have many heavyweights on board,” said UDM Secretary General David Ohito.

Governor Mohamud is leading local leaders for talks on possible alliances. In Wajir, Governor Ahmed Muktar, Eldas MP Adan Keynan, Senator Ali Abdulahi and Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi are rooting for Azimio la Umoja. Garissa Governor Ali Korane is a key Raila ally. In Isiolo, Woman Rep Rehema Jaldessa has decamped to UDM.
