166 MPs sign up on initiative to help end IEBC stalemate

About half of the National Assembly members have committed to help end the IEBC stalemate.

Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando, who is one of the conveners of the caucus that brings together MPs from across the political divide, confirmed that 166 out of the 349 MPs had signed up to the initiative that seeks to chart the way forward in unlocking the IEBC impasse.

"I can confirm that by Friday last week, we had 166 MPs. We are confident that more will join as we make efforts to resolve the matter as patriotic Kenyans. We will constantly update the public on the progress," Mr Kabando said.

The MPs met last week at a Nairobi hotel and came up with resolutions, among them collection of views on how to reform the IEBC.

The initiative is co-convened by Ugenya MP David Ochieng who exuded confidence that the MPs will make progress.

"We are working together with the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee in driving forward the reform initiative," he said.

The MPs formed the caucus in response to the crisis that has seen the Opposition take to the streets to force IEBC commissioners out of office.
