Kericho senator Cheruiyot blasts governor over official's sacking

Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot speaks to the press. He blasted Governor Paul Chepkwony for ignoring the county Assembly resolution to dismiss the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Information Communication (ICT) Gilbert Tuwei.

Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has lashed out at Governor Paul Chepkwony for allegedly ignoring the assembly's resolution to dismiss ICT Executive Gilbert Tuwei.

The assembly impeached Mr Tuwei, who is the immediate Water executive last Tuesday, over claims of misappropriating Sh195 million. The money had been allocated to 30 wards for water projects.

Mr Cheruiyot reminded Mr Chepkwony the assembly was the primary oversight authority, thus he must obey its resolutions. "MCAs are the governors' co-leaders and he must therefore respect the assembly and obey its resolutions. I have looked at the select committee report and was shocked at the grand corruption in the Water department," he said.

But in a quick rejoinder, an official in the county's Legal department, who requested for anonymity, dismissed Cheruiyot's sentiments saying the governor fired Tuwei on May 12.

The source nonetheless said the governor's action was suspended a day later after Tuwei's lawyer moved to Nakuru High Court, where Lady Justice Janet Mulwa suspended the implementation of the assembly's resolutions. "The inter-parties hearing was set for May 25," said the source.
