ODM postpones Nairobi County officials' elections again

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi County party officials' elections scheduled for September 10 has yet again been pushed forward.

The party, in a statement to newsrooms, said the move was to allow the County Appeals Board enough time to settle the disputes filed by some party members in the just concluded grassroots elections in all the 17 constituencies in Nairobi.

Some of those who lost the elections held in several wards in Nairobi on Saturday claimed that the elections were rigged and stage-managed.

The queuing voting system adopted by the party was also faulted as retrogressive and ineffective.

The grassroots elections in Migori County also came to an end amid claims of irregularities, including altering of lists of delegates elected at the ward level.

Women also expressed discontent with their representation at the county office, saying it did not meet the two-thirds gender rule as enshrined in the Constitution.
